Tourism stakeholders welcome new restaurant

A wide cross-section of tourism stakeholders were among the invited guests to welcome and celebrate “Sails” – the island’s chicest restaurant – to the picturesque Carenage, St. George’s.

Owned by veteran Grenadian restaurateur, Shereen Holas, and formerly called Ocean Grill, the newly rebranded “Sails” was opened with a successful launch on Sunday, December 1, 2013.

Among the high profile guests at the launch event were Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell; Amanda Seales, world-renowned Grenadian entertainer based in New York, who was the emcee for the night; several representatives of the Grenada Board of Tourism, and officials from the business and hospitality sectors.

Ms. Holas expressed her enthusiasm about accomplishing her goal to offer a top class, high quality dining experience to her guests. “After over 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, it is exhilarating to be able to create this exquisite restaurant right here on the Carenage,” she stated, while explaining that the venue will be offering a dining room with an unobstructed view of the breathtaking Carenage, St. Georges and Grand Anse.

With a seating capacity of 80 persons, a dingy dock, a full service bar, lounge, Wi-Fi hotspots, personal computers, and full wheel chair access, the restaurant is expected to attract those looking for fine dining and those who just want to relax in an atmosphere surrounded by technology that can help them share the experience with friends.

The chef at Sails is South African Victor Wadell, who has a wealth of experience in South African, European and Caribbean cuisine.

“I will be offering an eclectic array of Caribbean-European fusion fare, utilising organic and fresh local produce. I love the fresh Caribbean herbs, and will be using them abundantly in my preparations. We are committed to supporting the local farmers, and I am really looking forward to working with them,” he told the guests at the opening.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Mitchell praised Ms Holas for her confidence in Grenada’s economy, as well as her insight and vision and congratulated her on her stellar achievements.

The Head of Product Development at  the Grenada Board of Tourism,  Mrs. Nikoyan Roberts, welcomed the new restaurant to Grenada’s product landscape, and encouraged the Sails team to deliver superior service and product standards to its guests.

The exciting launch ceremony included performances by Amanda Seales, singer Jadey Baptiste and guitarist Cecil Bartholomew.  (LS)
