St. Andrew men fined and flogged for stealing goats
Though they narrowly escaped imprisonment, three St. Andrew men paid the price for stealing four goats belonging to farmers in the Pearls and Dunfermline area last week Friday, May 31.
The three men – Shane Alexander, 21-year-old sailor of Simon, St. Andrew together with Kelly Daniel, 21-year-old farmer and Kevin Buckley, 27-year-old labourer, both of Pearls, St. Andrew – pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing four goats.
The men, who appeared before Magistrate Nevlyn John in the Grenville Magistrate Court, were ordered to receive two strokes and to pay a fine of $534 compensation by 3 p.m. last Friday to each of the three complainants, whose goats were stolen. If the men had failed to pay the fine, they would have had to serve a prison term of 21 days.
The three men, who were caught on Wednesday, May 29, had killed the animals and placed them in bags to be transported for sale to the public. (LS)
