The fire occurred just before 11 p.m. Police said that a swift response from firefighters at the Gouyave Police Station, along with the co-ordinated efforts of villagers, quickly brought the fire under control and prevented it from destroying more homes in a tight housing area of the street known as “Shanty Town”.
