Regional information systems specialists converge in Barbados

THE Annual Conference of Regional Central Banks’ Information Systems Specialists got under way on Monday at the Hilton Barbados.

The week-long event carries the theme ‘Opportunities, Risks, Threats of New Technologies for Regional Central Banks’ and is expected to focus on managing risk – a concern for not only the region, but the globe.

Delivering opening remarks, Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, Dr. Delisle Worrell, stressed that the Caribbean nation had now stretched passed its geographical barriers to now include the Diaspora and, as such, its people must use the opportunities presented to safely maintain these linkages.

Welcoming the region’s banks, he said that this network was a success story in regional integration, as through these experiences and expertise had been shared to everyone’s benefit.

Janice Marshall, the bank’s Director of Management Information Systems stated that the forum was useful for the sharing of ideas and experiences, as the region continued to grapple with the constantly changing technologies.

“It also attests to the hard work, dedication and commitment of past and present IT leaders in our regional banks and the continuing support of our regional governors,” she added.

In attendance were representatives from the Bank of Guyana, Banque de la Republique D’Haiti, Central Bank of Belize, Centrale Bank Van Suriname, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Bank of Jamaica, Centrale Bank Van Curaçao En Sint Maarten and the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. (JMB)
