NDC supporters, executive attend church service, fun day

After the defeat of the February 19 General Elections, the members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) gathered at the Grenville Catholic Church at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, for a Special Mass in honour of the NDC.

Political Leader Tillman Thomas and his wife were among the congregation, along with other members of the National Executive Council. Members from various constituencies were present to thank the Almighty God for the NDC’s term in office.

This was followed on Sunday, March 3, 2013, dressed in their party paraphernalia, supporters and members rallied together in Hermitage, St. Patrick’s, the hometown of  Thomas, for a day of fun.

A statement from the party said that members paid their way on buses, travelled on vans, trucks, cars and even walked to assemble in their thousands for this social event – a day of fun and games.

“And there was no shortage of pure, decent fun. Games included cricket, athletics, cards and dominoes, among others. Constituents brought food and drinks, sporting gear and games to ensure that all who wanted to partake in the festivities were catered for. The love and camaraderie was overwhelming. Supporters and members were in a jubilant mood,” said the statement.

The clarion call emerging from this event is that this type of activity should become a NDC staple moving forward. To this end, the motion would be put before the leadership for thorough discussion and agreement at the National Executive Council Meeting.

The statement said that the charge to the gathering was issued by both the General Secretary and the Political Leader. Supporters responded to the call to become registered as members of the NDC and be ready for whenever the next Elections are called.

“A commitment was made towards staging the People’s Parliament and being watchdogs of the people’s patrimony. The Political Leader cautioned that a true NDCite never strays and would never vote for the NNP. He called on all present to protect their NDC brand, build their polling division structures and become paid up members urgently,” said the statement.
