Three sentenced for 2008 Black Bay robbery and murder

THE three persons charged with the 2008 robbery and murder of Black Bay businessman, Anthony Frederick, were recently sentenced to a total of 34 years’ imprisonment.

Che Phillip was sentenced to six years; Kenny Morain to 10 years; and Albert Griffith – the one who pulled the trigger – was sentenced to 18 years.

On the night of February 8, 2008 just before the regular closing time, the three according to a police report entered the All Class Supermarket in Black Bay, which was owned and operated by Frederick and his wife, Wilma, to rob the business place. During the fracas, the businessman and a bus driver were shot and the robbers who were wearing masks got away with the day’s cash.

The three were caught within a couple of hours of the robbery and murder. The sentencing of Griffith was part of May Assizes as Phillip, who is already a free man, and Morain were previously sentenced.

The May Assizes list consists of 89 matters with more than 50 per cent of the cases carried over from the previous Assizes session. Director of Public Prosecution, Christopher Nelson, said that the list is not very different, in terms of the types of cases, to previous Assizes lists.

“The cases are a combination of sexual-related offences, murder, housebreaking and stealing, fraud and other matters,” he said. (LS)
