Commancheros flying for 2014

In Flight is telling a story of Things with wings.

“IN Flight” is the name of the band that will be presented by LIME Commancheros for the 2014 Carnival celebrations.

A costume from three of the five sections for the adults were on display last Friday as the bands executive along with sponsors launch the masterpiece that will be displayed on the streets of St. George’s the second Monday and Tuesday in August. Also on display were three sections from the Children’s band.

In Flight is telling a story of Things with wings and will feature Butterflies, fairies and Thor for the children while the adult will feature Angels, Birds, Bat and two other sections.

The two that were not presented here today will be presented in time said Lennard Gittens, foundation member of Commancheros which was formed 29 years ago and during that time has won the Band of the Year title on 22 occasions.

One of the larger bands to participate in carnival with a steel band providing the accompanying music Commancheros was described by Culture Minister, Senator Brenda Hood, as contributing not just to carnival product but contributing to uplifting the community spirit.

‘The communities where you’re located are very proud of your achievement as they all come together to showcase the beautiful and artistic costumes that are seen on the streets for carnival,’ she said. ‘Through carnival you are able to bring the community together,’ she said.

Chairman of the Spicemas Corporation said that what Commancheros is doing for carnival in Grenada needs to be applauded. It is a true reflection of positive community spirit, you are not just doing a presentation but involving the community through your steel band and your carnival band, he said.
