FINAL CLASH – Hard Rock, LIME Paradise through to Waggy T football final



SOCCER fans should be in for a treat when the curtains come down on the 2012 Waggy T Super Knockout Football Tournament at the National Stadium this weekend.

Top teams Hard Rock and LIME Paradise are not only meeting for football supremacy, but are also battling for the championship prize of EC$34 500. Hundreds are expected to crowd the National Stadium for the encounter that should produce exciting football. The two scored semi-final wins last week Saturday, to reach the playoff.

GFA Premier League champions Hard Rock advanced with an impressive 3-1 win over NEWIM GBSS in a competitive fixture, with both teams exhibiting a high level of play. The difference, however, was the tremendous performance by striker Kimmon Redhead, who was deadly throughout the tournament. Redhead struck in the 8th, 19th and 74th minutes to record his fourth hat-trick in as many outings. He has certainly earned the “Golden Boot Award”, for his 12 strikes.

The St. Patrick’s outfit has been pretty impressive, scoring a whopping 22 goals in the competition and conceding just one in four outings.

LIME Paradise ready for showdown.
LIME Paradise, on the other hand, beat the 2011 Champions Hurricanes 2-1 in another competitive fixture with both teams showing plenty of enterprise. Goals by Quinta Ogilvie in the 32nd and Jake Renee in the 38th minutes, set up the victory. Kareen Joseph replied for Hurricanes. Wendell “Boboo” Renee has been their leading striker with four goals.


The St. Andrew’s outfit and former champions have scored nine goals and conceded three, from their four engagements – their most convincing win being a 3-0 defeat of Real Old Men in the quarter-finals.

It will certainly be thrilling contest between the likes of Redhead, Shevon John Brown and Lisdon Jukes for Hard Rock against the Renees national captain Shane, Wendell and Jake. The champion team walks away with a whooping EC$34 500, while the beaten finalist earns EC$19 500.

Several individual awards are also up for the taking with the MVP of the tournament, the highest goal scorer, the best goalkeeper and the most outstanding youth player earmarked to receive EC$500 each.

The Waggy T Super Knockout Tournament has been about sports and entertainment “Sportainment” and Soca diva out of Trinidad and Tobago Destra, local sensations Nikoyan Bain and former Soca Champion Otis, along with the St. John’s Moko Jumbies and dancers are bringing the curtains down on the tournament with a splash.
