PM Thomas and other officials pray – for Chavez’s recovery


Prayers for President Hugo Chavez who is presently in Cuba seeking medical treatment for cancer was the highlight of a day of celebration to commemorate the Bicentennial Anniversary of the Cartagena Manifesto last Saturday.

Undertaken by the Venezuelan Embassy and the Venezuela Cultural Institute, the occasion was mark with prayers from Catholic priest, Father Clifton Harris; Prime Minister Tillman Thomas; head of the Cuban Embassy Angol Reigoza La Cruz and head of the Venezuelan Embassy Venezia Martinez.

“People who are chosen by God to undergo suffering and pain are selected as Saints,” said Father Clifton Harrison. PM Thomas who is himself a Catholic called for a speedy recovery for the South American nation president.

“May God grant him mercy and recovery in this time of sickness,” he said.

Cuba’s Ambassador to Grenada called for the mercies of God to be bestowed on him so that he can do his work for the improvement of the people. “We look forward again to when he will be leading his people. We pray for him to have long life and health,” he stated.

“His illness is our illness, his pain is our pain,” said former foreign affairs minister Peter David, who described Chavez as a close friend of the Caribbean. (LS)
