Colourful displays expected at 2012 Horticulture Society show

Arrangements like these expected at the event.
MORE than 25 horticulturists representing three different societies in Trinidad and Tobago are expected to participate in the 2012 Grenada Horticulture Society (GHS) show, which will be held at the Grand Beach Convention centre this weekend.

President of the GHS, Ms Margaret de Roche, said that the Trinidadians will be competing mainly in floral arrangements and will be using both local and imported flowers. “We will have a wide collection of categories, but they are coming to participate mainly in the arrangement category,” she said.

Unusual fruits to be on show at the event.
With the theme of “Treasures of the Garden”, the show will be held for the first time at the Convention centre. “We were able to develop a partnership with the management of the hotel which will see the venue as our home for the time being, and most importantly, the trees in the garden of the property just blend into our theme this year; the surroundings are just right,” explained de Roche.

Categories will include herbs, crotons, palms, ferns, orchids,  flowering ornamentals, non flower ornamentals, anthurium, fruit, vegetables and unusual fruits.

There will also be live session on cooking using local herbs and other fruits and vegetables that can act as both decorations and food. “This is a new experience to the show, which is held every two years, and we are hoping that as much persons [as possible] attend and learn about using the various herbs that brings variety to our gardens.

“There will be some wonderful surprises at the show, it will be an experience displaying the wonderful colours of gardens and farms. It will be an excellent display of creativity from the Garden,” the GHS president promised.

The event starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow and on Sunday.
