African student studying at SGU found dead

Police here have confirmed that a student pursuing a medical degree at the St. George’s University (SGU) committed suicide.

The 25-year-old medical student, who was found dead at her rented apartment in True Blue (St. George), has been identified as Nyawira Nwaura of Kenya.

The body of Nwaura was discovered on the morning of Saturday, May 11, 2013 after she failed to pick up her sister, who was visiting her from Canada, at the Maurice Bishop International Airport.

“She was found in a kneeling position inside her bedroom with a belt buckled around her neck and the other end tied to the bed post,” said a statement issued by the Community Relations Department of the Police Force.

Nwaura, who was on her final year in medical school, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem exam-ination conducted on Monday revealed that she died as a result of asphyxia, constriction of the neck and hanging. (LS)

  3. I would trace the origin of this students issues to Newcastle England. Nyawira was a member of the Saint George University’s Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Program (KBTGSP). The city of Newcastle itself is probably one of the most racist places on the planet. The Dean of students, can answer any questions that you may have about her time there.

    2. Probably the usual nonsense, the classmates were probably racist and sneezed at her a bit too much and kept her from being centered, the usual nerd bullying games that are played. She should have gone to a HBCU medical program or a program in Africa and taken her USMLE.

SGU really is just another overpriced international program. They picked the same color as Harvard so people call them the Harvard of the Caribbean. It’s kind of funny, but some people really do think if it that way.

But I digress... When things go wrong at a loser Caribbean institution you don't harm yourself you just pick your bags up and move on. There are so many other Caribbean schools, what's the big deal about this one. Most other schools even cost less money and are still accredited by the same accreditation organizations.

27k per semester to still be an IMG, Yuck!. Do your research before you put money into an overpriced foreign medical school.
$27k X 1101 graduates in the year 2019 x 3semester per academic year = (wow this school is just killing it financially). I hope they at least gave her family something under the table.

If you want to go the IMG route and pay that much money, why not got European, SGU Nicosia instead. Id rather say that I went to school in Europe than in the Caribbean. Or if you really like the Caribbean so much why not just go next door lost of them off the coast of Florida. Why go all the way over there to Granada, or I think that’s where that SGU thing is located.

As a US medical grad, I have no idea why anyone would even pay that much money to still be classified as an IMG. Why not just go to a less expensive program. Why is this one program being enabled to rack up on all that money, they're losers. An IMG is an IMG.
I hope all 1101 of you guys that graduated matched, but if you don’t then keep trying or consider other career paths. There are lots of career alternatives that pay well.
