Oliver Joseph to contest 2013 general elections

Oliver Joseph

Oliver Joseph, who retired from the public service less than two years ago, said that he decided to enter the political field because it will provide him an opportunity to serve the country at a higher level.

“It’s just one step higher in my public service life. I worked in the service all my life and believe I can make a further contribution by associating myself with the New National Party,” said the former CSME Co-ordinator at CARICOM’s Centre for Development and Administration.

“I am sure that I will be able to make a contribution in any area, but my qualifications are in economic and international trade,” Joseph said, when asked where he would best be able to contribute if the NNP were to be elected into office.

A release from the Opposition New National Party Executive Branch said that it has accepted Joseph as the new caretaker for the St. David constituency following the resignation of Gabriel Henry, who
resigned from the post after he was charged by police on a number of domestic violence offences.

“Following the resignation of the caretaker for the constituency of St. David, the Constituency Branch of the New National Party unanimously nominated Mr. Oliver Joseph as their new caretaker. The nomination has been formally accepted by the Executive Branch of the New National Party,” said the statement.

Joseph, who is also a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be formally presented to the Constituency Branch members and to the people of St. David by the Political Leader at
a mass rally previously planned for Sunday, January 13 at Belle Vue, St. David from 5 p.m.

Henry was forced to resign after he was charged by police for assaulting his female companion on January 1 during a quarrel. Henry appeared in court on Monday, January 7 and the matter was adjourned to today, January 11, 2013. (LS)
