Former PM wants to see CAL expand its Grenada service
Former Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, wants the relevant Grenadian authorities to work along with Caribbean Airlines (CAL) to expand its services to Grenada as a result of LIAT’s decision to reduce its flights to the island.
Urging that people speak out against the decision, Dr. Mitchell said that the announcement is not a positive one and described the action as holding the island to ransom.
“All of us should speak out against such action and I urge that the necessary discussion be done to get Caribbean Airlines to expand its services between Grenada and other destinations. No one should be allowed to hold the country to ransom,” he said.
As of October, LIAT reduced its flights to Grenada from eight to four. The airline explained that the action was following research and low usage of the services between Grenada and the respective destinations.
Dr. Mitchell is of the opinion that LIAT is not properly managed and it should be restructured to fully satisfy the demands of regional travel.
Recently, LIAT said that it will be approaching eight territories it services for financial assistance, given that these routes are costing the airline more than it makes from attending to them. (LS)
