Voter list published by Elections Office
Less than 60 000 persons are registered to vote in Grenada according to the first list which the Parliamentary Elections Office published following the 2012 enumeration and registration exercise.
The list, which was conducted from January to July and made public as of October 31, was developed following the House to House enumeration exercise which, among other things, clears the list of deceased persons.
The Opposition New National Party, which has been clamouring for the Elections Office to publish the list, has filed a matter in the court seeking the office to release the list, which it claims should have been published six weeks following the enumeration.
Deputy Supervisor of Elections, Ada Holder, explains that the total figure combines persons who were registered up to July 8 on the last day of the enumeration as well as those registered from July to September 30 as part of the continuous registration of persons who are qualified to register.
“What we publish is both the list with persons who registered from January to July 8 and the additional list for the July to September, so the names will be reflective of the period January to September 2012,” she said.
The previous list had more than 70 000 names.
