2012 media awards to take place on December 2

Guest speaker at the 2012 annual Media Workers’ Association of Grenada Awards ceremony will be former news anchor, CARIMAC lecturer and Jamaican Media Personality, Ms. Fae Ellington.

This was disclosed by President Rawle Titus at the launch of the event on Monday. For the fourth year running, media practitioners in Grenada are being assured of Digicel’s commitment and support for their work in informing the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Digicel will once again demonstrate this by be-ing the main sponsor of the Media Workers’ Association of Grenada Awards ceremony due to be held on December 2, 2012 at the Trade Centre Annex.

“A properly functioning media is indispensable to the proper running of a modern society,” said Patricia Maher, country manager, “and Digicel relishes the opportunity to lend support to the efforts of the Media Association here in Grenada, especially in highlighting the outstanding work done over the year.”

Maher continued that a better informed person is a better citizen and a better consumer both of which are needed to advance our nation economically, culturally and socially.

Media workers have until October 26 to deposit nominated stories in the box, which is located at Digicel’s branch in St. George’s. After that date, all entries will be sent to CARIMAC, where it will be accessed by a team of experienced media persons attached to the institute. They will award winners in 16 categories for radio, television and print mediums in a number of categories including best political, business, entertainment, tourism, agriculture, sports as well as story of the year.

The 2012 event will be the second year that aspiring media professionals will be awarded under the Anthony “Jericho” Greenidge Award sponsored by Digicel. The ceremony is expected to be a gala event. (LS)
