Hundreds of Catholics from throughout Grenada will gather at the National Stadium on Sunday, October 28, for a Diocesan Rally that brings to a close the First Synod of the Diocese of St. George’s in Grenada.
On that occasion, Bishop Vincent Darius will announce the Decrees of the Synod. These decrees will set the agenda for the Catholic Church in Grenada for the next three years. Three areas of priority were iden- tified during the 21 months of discussions that involved all communities and organisations in the Catholic Church. They are: 1. Evangelisation; 2. Stewardship and Administration; and 3. Youth and Young Adults.
A statement from the Catholic Church said that the decrees of a synod have a special significance. According to Canon Law, they must be communicated to Rome and to the Conference of Bishops in the region. The bishop, clergy and laity of the diocese can be held to account for the implementation of these decrees.
The rally will also celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the ordination of Vincent Darius as Bishop and his 25th as priest. Guests of honour at the rally will be the representative of Pope Benedict XVI to the region, Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Nicola Girasoli and Archbishop Robert Rivas of Castries. Archbishop Girasoli will be the Celebrant at the Mass and will also preach the homily. (LS)
