Party supporters urged to stop all abusive behaviour

THE Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has issued a warning to persons engaging in illegal blocking of roads or abusive behaviour during the election campaign to immediately desist and cease the practice.

This warning came following complaints on radio programmes on Monday that bus loads of supporters of a political party had to take a detour route in the city of Gouyave last Sunday after a vehicle of
a known supporter of another party parked his vehicle in the middle of the road with its four doors open. Supporters wearing branded T-shirts also stood in the road and refused to clear resulting in a disruption of the normal traffic flow.

“The RGPF in particular express concerns about the blockage of roads thus disrupting the free flow
of traffic, and remind the general public that it is an offence for anyone to interrupt the free passage of a vehicle, person or animal or allowing a vehicle or trailer to cause unnecessary obstruction. (Road Traffic Act Chapter 5 Continuous Revised Laws of Grenada 1994),” said a statement from the Police Community Relations Department on Monday.

Further, the RGPF advised that a person shall be guilty of an offence if he or she in a public place or at a public meeting uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or distributes or displays any writing, sign or visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting.

“The RGPF is advising persons engaging in any such behaviours to desist immediately and wish all a crime and violent free election,” the statement said. (LS)
