25 participate in air cargo security training

Twenty-five persons from regional territories involved in air cargo security are now more equipped to engage in their duties as a result of training conducted by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

US Chargé d’Affaires in Grenada, Louis J. Crishock, presented certificates at the graduation ceremony last Friday, December 7, to mark the completion of the air cargo security training, which was sponsored by the Organisation of American States’ Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (OAS-CICTE), with funding from the United States.

The 25 participants in the training, comprising eight from Grenada, included representatives of airports authorities, cargo shippers, inspectors, security officials and police in a number of CARICOM member states. In his remarks, Crishock thanked both the participants and trainers for their hard work, adding that the skills conveyed through the training would certainly contribute to enhanced safety and security for civil aviation in the Caribbean region, and the broader Western Hemisphere.

This cargo security training was conducted by trainers from the US TSA, and is one element of a year-long effort to improve aviation security standards throughout the Western Hemisphere that is being conducted by the Organisation of American States thanks to a grant of over $500 000 from the United States. (LS)
