New Vicar General to be inaugurated on Sunday

Father Clifton Harris, O.P., is the new Vicar General for the Catholic community and will be inaugurated on Sunday during the Patronal Feast Day celebration at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in St. George’s.

During the Mass, a special tribute will be paid to Msgr. Cyril Lamontagne for 37 years of faithful service as Vicar General to both Bishop Emeritus Sydney Charles and Bishop Darius.

In accordance with the resolutions of the recent Diocesan Synod, two Episcopal Vicars will also be inaugurated. They are Fr. Martinianus Chidi Chileke, Episcopal Vicar for Stewardship; and Fr. Lawrence Ebuk, Episcopal Vicar for Evangelisation.

Episcopal Vicars act with the authority of the bishop in the areas of responsibility assigned to them.

When Christopher Columbus sighted a beautiful island to the north of Trinidad on December 8, 1498, he named it “Conception” in honour of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is celebrated by Catholics on that date.

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is the Patronal Feast Day of the Diocese of St. George’s-in-Grenada. This year it will be celebrated by Catholics from all over the diocese on Sunday, December 9. The event will begin with a Rosary procession at 3 p.m. from the roundabout at the top of Lucas Street, near to the former State House, to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
