Increase in price for local poultry

THE prices of locally-grown poultry products have increased as a result of a recent increase in the cost of feed for birds.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Grenada Poultry Association said that its members have tried to get farmers to absorb the price increases brought on by the increases in poultry feed cost by Caribbean Agro Industries, but it was difficult and thus there is a slight increase in product.

After numerous calculations and market testing to keep the price at the current level, farmers have found it impos-sible to absorb the full price increases and have adopted a new price structure.

The association’s suggested prices are as follows from December 10, 2012:
• 1 Tray of Eggs $20
• Whole Fowl $6 per lb

“We thank you for your understanding and look forward to your continued support of our Farmers and our Local Poultry Industry,” said the statement, which said that farmers have thankfully agreed to absorb the greater portion of the feed price increases, but not in its entirety. (LS)
