St. Joseph Convent’s Fruttii-D-Litez wins silver at JA Int’l Competition
HOT on the heels of their success in winning the national title, the CIBC FirstCaribbean sponsored team has further distinguished itself by placing second in what for many is the Olympics of Junior Achievement.
Competing against 21 companies from Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada, the team from Grenada won the equivalent in Junior Achievement of Olympic silver, in coming second to Ecuador, with Brazil placing third.
This is a significant achievement which cements Grenada’s reputation on the world stage and is something all should celebrate and take pride in.
Commenting on the reasons for the success of Fruttii-D-Litez, St. Joseph’s Convent St. Andrew’s, local Junior Achievement co-ordinator, Jessie Cumberbatch said, “ To do as well as they did against such stiff competition speaks volumes for each member of the company and the support provided by the school, sponsors and others.”
She further stated, “Fruttii-D-Litez’s success was no fluke. It was as a result of experience gained in previous competitions as well as their great understanding of entrepreneurship.”
The Junior Achievement programme was started in Grenada in 1986 and is designed to give secondary school students the opportunity to gain skills and hands-on experience in areas of financial literacy and work force readiness. Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GCIC), is responsible for the co-ordination and roll out of the programme in Grenada.
Country Head Nigel Ollivierre in expressing his delight at the success of the team from Grenada stated, “We heartily congratulate Fruttii-D-Litez, Joseph’s Convent St. Andrew’s for their outstanding achievement. CIBC First-Caribbean has been an active supporter of this excellent initiative for many years and intends to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. We believe it remains an excellent platform to develop, nurture and expose the considerable entrepreneurial talents in our people. We hope that Fruttii-D-Litez’s outstanding achievement will spur others to take up the JA baton and run with it to further success.”
He singled out Fruttii-D-Litez, teacher Ms. Kate Lewis and CIBC FirstCaribbean consultant, Mr. Clyde Walcott, who also won the local award for Consultant of the Year, for the part they played in preparing the team for their outstanding achievement.
